Mole Mapping / Total Body Photography (TBP)

Total Body Photography (TBP) is the process of taking high quality images of your skin from head to toe to help your doctor monitor and assess your moles. This service is not covered by the RAMQ and thus entirely at patients’ expense.

The Total Body Photography offers many benefits.

Who should consider Total Body Photography (TBP) ?

Patients with any number of risk factors may benefit from TBP

Some risk factors include:
  • Having many moles (more than 50)
  • Having a personal history of skin cancer
  • Having a immunosuppressive condition
  • Taking any immunosuppressive medication
  • Having a family history of skin cancer
  • Having any large moles (more than 1 cm in diameter)
  • Having extensive sun damage to your skin
  • Use of sunbeds

Why should mole mapping be performed at a dermatology clinic?
Dermatologist possess the knowledge, training, and specialized skills required for mole removal. Many moles require specialized examination using a dermatoscope. Only dermatologist are trained to observe and evaluate moles and other lesions using this examination. Furthermore, if there is any doubt, patient are immediately taken in charge by the dermatologist for surgical intervention or removal of the lesion in question.

Price list for non-medically necessary procedures not covered by the Régie de l’Assurance Maladie du Québec

All services which are not medically necessary, which means are not involved in the prevention or the treatment of skin disease are not insured by the Régie de l’Assurance Maladie du Québec (RAMQ). These fees are not covered and must be paid by the patient. This includes the removal of benign lesions such as: age spots, cysts, dermatofibroma, nevi, milia, skin tags, sun spots.

The cost of a cosmetic consultation is $150 plus taxes.
